According to military sources, the guards cannot see infiltrators at night because they have no night-vision goggles. On her latest tour of the Middle East which ended in Riyadh 21 June 2005, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned that Syria should not ignore regional changes and "needs to control its border and make sure that its territory is not being used for insurgents in Iraq."
